Winter ToursAlmanza & Punta Paraná Gourmet

“

Ice routes, frozen lagoons, and a gastronomic experience at the end of the world.

”

Winter: July to September

· · · ·

We move away from the conventional circuits to discover the wild heart of Route J. We will cross snowy valleys and frozen forests to reach Puerto Almanza, a small fishing village where time seems to stand still. In the solitude of Punta Paraná, we will take refuge in a cabin by the fire to enjoy a lunch with local flavors, living the most authentic and remote experience in Tierra del Fuego.

This journey is ideal for those looking to go beyond where mass tourism reaches. We will depart from Ushuaia, traveling through the imposing Tierra Mayor Valley, where winter transforms the landscape into a scene of white routes and frozen lagoons. We will take Route J, a secondary road that skirts the Lasifashaj River, making our way through ancient forests of Lengas and Coihues until we reach Laguna Victoria, a magical corner that in winter usually offers postcards of crystalline ice.

We will continue towards the coast of the Beagle Channel to visit Puerto Almanza. Here, contact with nature is total: water freezes, telephone signals disappear, and life is governed by the laws of the land. We will see how artisanal fishing families maintain their traditions in this remote spot before continuing our way to Punta Paraná, a place where human intervention almost vanishes.

The highlight of our day will be the arrival at a cozy cabin hidden in the forest. After lighting the wood stove, we will embark on a walk to the Beagle Viewpoint or the Cascada del Duende (Goblin’s Waterfall), which may be frozen in winter. Later, we will share a gourmet lunch designed with local products such as king crab, sea bass (róbalo), or wild salmon. In this refuge, surrounded by silence and with views of the channel, we will disconnect from superfluous luxuries to reconnect with the pure essence of the end of the world.

The weather in Tierra del Fuego is known for its variability; it is not uncommon to experience sun, rain, or snow and wind all in the same day. Average temperatures in winter usually hover around 0°C. Being prepared is key to fully enjoying the experience.

Essential Clothing: The "Onion" Method To guarantee comfort during outdoor activities, layering is crucial. The "onion skin" system allows you to adapt your clothing to changing weather conditions and your level of physical activity.

Layers: Dress in several thin layers that can be easily put on or taken off to regulate body temperature against the wind or sun.
Footwear: This is the most important piece. We recommend waterproof footwear or boots that offer robust protection, ideal for walking on wet, muddy, or snowy terrain.
Jacket: Indispensable. A waterproof or water-resistant jacket will effectively protect you from rain and wind.
